Jiaqi Yu, PhD
Building communities · Designing possibilities · Empowering educators
I build Communities of Practice, faculty development programs, and scholarly infrastructure in health sciences education. What connects the work is a commitment to making scholarship sustainable for the people doing it — clinical educators, instructional designers, and emerging scholars building careers in a field that rarely stops changing.
Now
At UNT Health at Fort Worth, I serve as Assistant Director of Instructional Innovation and Project Management. As founder of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Collective, I have built five interconnected Communities of Practice — now engaging 150+ faculty and 20+ active SoTL projects — and I lead institution-wide initiatives in faculty development, instructional design, and educational research.
Then
Across more than a decade of practice, I have shaped how higher education prepares instructional design teams to lead complex projects — through cross-institutional collaborations with the Online Learning Consortium, EDUCAUSE and Penn State's ID2ID program, and the POD Network. My co-led redesign of an online public health course earned the Delta Omega Innovative Curriculum Runner-Up Award in 2024. I hold a PhD in Curriculum & Instructional Technology (co-major, Human–Computer Interaction) from Iowa State University.
Next
Three commitments shape my next chapter: sustaining educator well-being inside ambitious instructional change; integrating generative AI into teaching with rigor, transparency, and care for faculty trust; and building an ICF-credentialed coaching practice grounded in the same principles that guide my faculty development work.
